Our Story

redefining brunch culture

We’ve been a fixture in Lincoln Park since 1938, feeding Chicago mornings for nearly 90 years and earning a reputation no amount of marketing can manufacture. This is a place built on good food, a legendary chef, and a neighborhood that keeps showing up.

What is now The Brunchery started as Frances’ Deli on North Clark Street, a beloved Lincoln Park institution known for its deli classics, matzo ball soup, and a loyal neighborhood following going back to 1938. When Executive Chef Derek Rylon and partner Chris Haris took over, they kept the soul of the place intact, the staff, the warmth, the history, and built something new on top of it. The name eventually became The Brunchery. The loyalty never left.

Chicagoans have made this corner of Clark Street part of their weekends, their celebrations, and their routines. We’ve served neighborhood regulars, out-of-town visitors, celebrities, and even the Mayor of Chicago himself. Everyone gets the same thing when they walk through our doors: a great meal and a warm welcome.

What sets us apart from every other brunch spot is what we put on the table. Our monthly specials are crafted around what’s fresh and 100% local ingredients. Our martini and margarita flights have become a signature all their own, the kind of thing people come back for before they’ve even finished their first round.

We always believed the best food starts before it hits the kitchen. That’s why we partner with local Chicago makers and producers to bring the freshest ingredients to your plate. 

Our sourdough bread comes from Publican Quality Bread, one of Chicago’s most respected bakeries, and it’s just one example of the  relationships we take pride in.

We also spotlight the community because we are the community. And while we’re rooted in Lincoln Park, our doors are open to everyone. Every single day we welcome guests from across the city, from the suburbs, and from out of state who’ve heard about The Brunchery and made the trip to see what all the talk is about.
